History

Jardin Zoologique de Bruxelles

A long time ago, in the 19th century, there was a zoo in Brussels.

You could wander in the Parc Léopold and visit Martin the bear and Betzy the elephant.

Around the same time, Place Jourdan was build and a new pharmacy opened.

We like to believe that the young pharmacist, Edmond, treated these animals,

since he prepared on his first day, a Sunday in 1880:

30 grams of Helmerich's cream for the school of veterinary medecine!

Today, where once was the zoo, now stands the European Parliament,

but the pharmacy is still located in the house with the mention "droguerie".

After pharmacist Edmond Doffenies, there was Jean Tramasure.

He was followed in 1974 by Jean Pierre Beghin and in 1996 by pharmacist Michael Pauwels.
